Overhead Cranes Types

Single Girder Overhead Cranes

Single girder overhead cranes can range from manual systems for loads of 250kg or less, right up to capacities of over 10 tonnes.

Our Single girder cranes are a type of overhead crane that are common in production, engineering and many other workplaces as they cater to practically any lifting application.

E&C Crane Engineering are a leading UK manufacturer of single girder overhead cranes, supplying standard and bespoke models around the world. Every one of our single girder cranes is made to order, meaning its size and capacity can be adapted to fit your requirements.

As a rule of thumb we tend to specify single girder crane designs for loads under 10 tonnes, anything over this will typically feature a double girder design.

Single girder cranes

Single girder overhead cranes get their name from the fact that they utilise just one beam, as opposed to two. As such, they are typically designed to carry lighter loads than double girder models.

As with all E&C Crane Engineering overhead systems, our single girder cranes can span either all or part of a building as required. Electric powered models are common, but manual options are also available for lighter applications. The use of our Kinematic Drive System means each of our single girder cranes offers an excellent operating performance.

Our single girder overhead crane design and manufacturing skills are unmatched, resulting not only in a quality lifting solution tailored to your place of work, but also guaranteeing reliability, a lasting service life and an excellent safety performance.

We also deliver, install and load test your new lifting system, while our crane service and support team can oversee the future maintenance and upkeep of all single girder cranes (whether originally from E&C Crane Engineering or any other supplier).

Whatever your lifting requirements E&C Crane Engineering have the expertise and experience to find the perfect solution.

Double Girder Overhead Cranes

Robust, built to last and designed around your needs, double girder overhead cranes are ideal for lifting heavier capacities.

A double girder overhead crane is a lifting solution designed to carry medium and heavy duty loads. By using two adjacently positioned beams, double girder cranes offer improved support for the goods being handled, allowing the movement of larger capacities. Typically we will specify a double girder crane design for loads over approx. 10 tonnes.

E&C Crane Engineering are the most versatile manufacturer of double girder cranes, providing a comprehensive range for lifting requirements of all kinds. All our double girder overhead cranes are made to order – meaning they can be built to any size and adapted to handle any load.

Double girder cranes

We utilise an advanced design system and meticulously evaluate all mechanical, structural and electrical components used in the production of every E&C Crane Engineering double girder overhead crane, resulting in cost effective, reliable and safe lifting solutions.

Our Kinematic Drive System, which comes as standard on all of our double girder cranes, is one of the features which sets us apart from other suppliers. This provides a higher level of performance by allowing for variable speed control.

As a leading UK manufacturer, we can produce double girder cranes to suit any application in any industry. Even in the most arduous of working environments, such as nuclear or subterranean, we can create special configurations including open barrel hoist designs to cater to any requirement.

Double girder overhead crane options

We can also incorporate a number of optional extras into the design of your double girder overhead crane, this helps meet the goals of your application. These include things like remote control access, walkways, floodlights and cabs.

Beam Cranes

Beam cranes are a common lifting solution consisting of one or more horizontal beams that traverse along gantry supporting rails. When it comes to finding the perfect beam crane for your workplace, E&C Crane Engineering are a UK market leader in designing and manufacturing bespoke solutions tailored precisely to suit the application in hand.

Single and double beam crane designs

E&C Crane Engineering overhead beam cranes can be made to any size and support any capacity safe working load. For lighter duty requirements we often recommend a single beam crane design, whereas heavier goods are better served by a double beam crane system.

Every element of our beam cranes can be fully customised from the height and span of the system, through to finishing touches like the paint colours used.

Beam cranes are commonly referred to as overhead cranes – click through to find out more about our capabilities in this field.

EOT Cranes

EOT cranes are among the most common lifting solutions used across a range of different workplaces, such as assembly lines, research facilities and production plants.

An EOT crane, or Electric Overhead Travelling crane, consists of single or multiple beams that can traverse along supporting gantry rails. E&C Crane Engineering are a leading EOT crane manufacturer, designing and producing bespoke systems to meet any lifting requirement.

Single girder EOT cranes

Our single girder EOT cranes are commonly used for lighter duty applications. They can support weights from less than 100 kilograms, right up to heavier duty loads of several tonnes. We offer a versatile range of hoists and below the hook lifting accessories to help tailor our single girder EOT cranes to the task in hand.

Double girder EOT cranes

For jobs that involve lifting heavier loads, we usually quote double girder EOT cranes. By introducing a second horizontal beam double girder EOT cranes spread the weight evenly, letting the crane better manage the stress of the application. This also helps extend the durability and lifespan of the EOT crane, particularly when under constant daily usage.

Bridge Cranes

When it comes to bridge crane design and manufacturing, E&C Crane Engineering are a market leader. Thanks to our bespoke approach, we can ensure that we have an overhead bridge crane for sale that will perfectly meet the needs of your lifting requirement.

We use the latest computerised design technology to ensure every individual element of these industrial overhead cranes delivers excellent performance and value for money. The E&C Crane Engineering Kinematic Drive System, for example, gives operators variable speed control, while we also offer open barrel hoist designs to let you deal with extremely heavy duty requirements.

Industrial overhead cranes

We have a great deal of experience in manufacturing heavy duty overhead crane systems for various industries, such as utilities, automotive, aerospace and transport. The challenges involved with each process crane we produce vary depending on the sector and the application in hand, but we can customise each one as required with accessories such as cabs, walkways and floodlights.

Top Running Cranes
As a leading lifting equipment manufacturer, E&C Crane Engineering have considerable experience when it comes to designing and supplying top running cranes. We can produce a top running crane tailored around your needs, to meet any requirement whether you’re the end user of the system or a business working within the lifting industry.

Top running cranes, also referred to as top running bridge cranes and top running overhead cranes, get their name from their end carriages that support horizontal beam or beams which span the width of the system and sit on top of the gantry rail supports. This is as opposed to underslung crane designs, in which the end carriages run underneath the gantry framework.

Single and double girder top running cranes

We customise all of our top running cranes to meet the lifting application in hand, which means we offer both single beam and double girder top running crane designs. Generally a double girder top running crane will be used for heavier duty tasks as the stress of the load being supported is spread across two beams.

Travelling Cranes
E&C Crane Engineering travelling cranes, also known as overhead travelling cranes, are a versatile lifting solution that can be adapted to suit any application.

Whether you have an internal or external lifting requirement, involving light or heavy duty loads, E&C Crane Engineering can design & manufacture a travelling crane to suit your needs.

Finding the right travelling crane for your business

As with all our products, we use a bespoke approach to designing travelling cranes. This means we carefully consider the items being handled, the space available in the workplace, the goals of the application and many other factors to create the perfect overhead travelling crane for the task in hand.

As well being able to offer design and manufacture of the travelling crane’s girder, end carriage and gantry framework, we also offer a selection of powering options and hoisting options to ensure the functionality is absolutely right. We can oversee the project management of the production, delivery and installation of every single component required for your new overhead travelling crane.

Our overhead travelling cranes can be customised further with a choice of optional extras that include floodlights, walkways, different paint finishes and hoist canvases.

Turntable Cranes
Rotating heavy goods is made easy with our bespoke turntable cranes.

Turntable cranes are a variant of the classic overhead crane design that allows for the items being lifted to be rotated horizontally. This can be useful for a number of applications such as being able to position tools into the correct orientation or avoiding obstacles when manoeuvring bulky goods around a workshop.

The turntable itself can be designed to suit the application in hand offering up to complete 360° rotation if required. Typically this will consist of a post supported from a travelling crab unit that is connected to a rotating platform on which the hoist or hoists will sit.

As with all of our lifting products our turntable cranes are made to order and can be built to any height, span and safe working load capacity. Supporting rails and freestanding gantry steel work can also be produced or the turntable crane can be designed to run on existing rails within your workplace.

Lightweight Cranes

Lightweight cranes are growing in popularity in the UK and internationally. Ideal for manual hand-operated applications as well as heavier duty tasks – they represent a safe and smart lifting solution.

E&C Crane Engineering offers a range of aluminium cranes and other lightweight lifting systems to meet a variety of requirements.

Aluminium cranes

Whether you need aluminium rails for an overhead system, aluminium gantry framework or an aluminium jib arm, we can help you find lightweight crane systems to meet the task in hand.

Light cranes offer several advantages over traditional models including providing a smoother operating motion which makes day-to-day use of the system easier, less time consuming and less physically strenuous for staff.

While typically aluminium cranes tend to use manual operating methods, powered options are available as light crane systems can be configured to support safe working loads of considerable capacities.

Another reason aluminium cranes are sometimes favoured over traditional models, particularly in public facing environments, is due to aesthetical preference as their slimline and hollow beam designs can add a smart and modern impression to your workplace.

Lightweight crane systems

In terms of strength, support and safety, our lightweight cranes provide the high level of reliability you would expect of any E&C Crane Engineering product.

If you’re a trade client ordering an aluminium crane from us to sell on to your customer, you’ll find that their lightweight nature keeps shipping costs to a minimum.

We supply lightweight cranes from top industry names such as Verlinde.

We also offer an extensive range of A-frame gantry cranes which are a good alternative to aluminium cranes if you’re looking for a lightweight lifting system that provides the additional benefit of portability.

Monorail Cranes

A monorail cranes are simple and effective lifting solutions which consist of a hoist that moves along an elevated beam. Typically found in production environments, assembly lines and many other workplaces, they are ideal for increasing the efficiency of various processes and applications.

E&C Crane Engineering are leading manufacturers of monorail cranes, with decades of experience in helping companies find tailored solutions to their lifting requirements. We supply monorail cranes to both end users and trade clients here in the UK and worldwide.

Design and manufacture of monorail cranes

Our monorail crane design expertise are second to none, producing detailed bespoke plans that are adapted to suit the challenges of your workplace. We can manufacture straight, curved or even looped monorail cranes to suit your application. A monorail crane is ideal when you need to transport goods between various workstations, lowering and raising materials at each location.

Our monorail crane beams can be designed and manufactured to any length or shape, supporting various types of hoist, including electric and manual options. We utilise the latest in power feed technologies and use radio and inverter control to ensure smooth drive and hoisting motions.

The following video shows two E&C Crane Engineering monorail cranes being used in conjunction with one another to move a load over a water tank and then lower it in for testing during its production process:

Goal post supported and ceiling mounted cranes

Monorail cranes can be supported either via goal post support frames or can be attached directly to the ceiling of a workshop or warehouse.

Our experts will recommend which they feel is the best option for your requirements depending on the capacity being handled and distance goods needs to be transported.

Monorail ceiling mounted cranes (sometimes known as ceiling cranes) can enable you to maximise the space available and are often a good option when headroom is restricted, however, additional goal post supports may be required for more complex and heavy duty designs.
